With Fall Foliage fast approaching we began our crafts today. We went out and collected leaves, ferns, grass, and other nature items. We used those materials to create fall cards with different scenes and animals on them. We had so much fun being creative and getting messy! The kids even came up with some ideas for other crafts that we will make.
Last week we celebrated earning another 100s chart by bringing in stuffed animals. We reviewed how to play with our stuffed animal at school then had some time to share about each stuffed animal. The stuffed animals were able to help the kids with math, reading, and writing! It was also an exciting day because the recorders came in! I was impressed with how well they were doing on the first day! We had such a fun day with our celebration! I loved seeing everyone come in so excited and proud of what they had earned. Everyone was excited to show off their pajamas. It was a comfy day! We also went on a nature hike with our Kindergarten buddies. Last week we began talking about stamina. Stamina is doing an activity for a long time without getting tired or giving up. We are working on building our reading and writing stamina. During reading the kids find a quiet spot to read where they will not get distracted. Right now they are reading to themselves for 10-15 minutes, but when the timer goes off I often hear many groans because they want to keep reading!
We did it! We earned 100 acknowledgments for showing our PRIDE! This morning we added our 100s chart to the school bulletin board. When the school earns 1,000 acknowledgements we will earn a celebration with the whole school. Our class voted and to celebrate our 100s chart we will be having a p.j. party on Friday! Stay tuned for some pictures of our celebration!
This week we began writing small moment stories. When we write we follow 3 steps; think of an idea, plan, and then write. When we plan our story we first touch each page and tell what we would write on the page then we make a quick sketch. Then its time to write! I have read stories about birthdays, getting ice cream, playing with friends, going on a motorcycle ride, playing with pets, and we have only just begun!
Our first butterfly hatched! The kids enjoyed watching it stretch and dry its wings. We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, what a butterfly eats, and how a butterfly protects itself.

We have explored with base ten blocks, pattern blocks, dominos., and cubes. Everyone has been enjoying building different structures and determining how much support their buildings need. Our classroom library opened! We discussed how we treat our books and why we need to be careful and responsible with them. | |
